The journey of contrasts in this ‪#‎SacredRivers

Photographer #KC Chong’s solo exhibition Sacred Rivers in @hinbusdepot is full of contrasts. This image depicts a large, environmentally-friendly statue at Kumartali. The caption explains this sculpture is made from paddy straw hardened by river mud, and uses water-based dyes. After prayer rituals the sculpture is returned to the sacred river, where its decomposition does not pollute the environment. This methodology goes back to olden days and is a mark of respect for the river.

However, this exhibition also highlights river pollution caused by the modern ship-building industry in Dhaka, the lack of population control on earth, and the effects of overfishing with marine experts predicting the disappearance of marine life in 50 years. Human traffic is ever-flowing, unmanaged, like a river.
